Making Saving By Implementing Energy Efficient Lighting

By Phyllis Schroeder

Now a days, more and more people are becoming more conscious about their environment. Consumers are more conscious in buying and consuming green products, like buying recycled papers, eating organic food, and such. Unfortunately, when you go green your cost of living would increase. This is because eco living is expensive. But there are ways to save up while helping out mother nature.

Increasing your saving can be achievable through efficient energy use. You can do this starting with Energy Efficient Lighting. When you apply this it would help reduce the amount of power requires to provide products and services. By installing fluorescent lights or natural skylights may help reduce the amount of power use to attain the same level of brightness. There are a lot of efficient lamps that is now available in the market. Some are very affordable.

Traditional incandescent bulbs are almost obsolete because it uses too much electricity, it easily burns out, and the light is not that bright. So you end up buying more. No wonder it is being taken out of the market.

Since electric lighting burns up to 25 percent of the average home power budget. There are a lot of cost efficient tubes available in the market right now. These would include compact fluorescent lamps, light emitting diodes, and halogen incandescent.

If these methods are too hassle for you. You can try using power efficient bulbs. These are more available to the public and some are not that expensive.

Light emitting diodes or LEDs by the way, can provide excellent brightness in your home. LED technology has been developing rapidly and has come up with other useful alternatives to some traditional lights. If you choose to get LED lights, make sure you get the high quality ones. But if you use low quality, then just expect that it may flicker when dimmed, could not provide enough light and may fail prematurely.

Most common cost efficient lights in the market are, compact fluorescent lamps or CFLs, light emitting diode or LEDs and halogen lights. These are very efficient that it only uses about 25 to 80 percent thus helps you save money. Also can last until 3 to 25 times longer than the traditional ones.

These are also available in the wide range of colors and the light levels you have to expect. You might think that buying it initially is expensive but you can save up with the power usage it will spend throughout the years. This is due to longer life span thus you will not need to replace them as often.

Lastly, the halogen bulbs. There two kinds of halogens, one is the 12 volt with transformer and the other is the 240 volt mains voltage halogen or MVH. It is commonly mistaken that using 12 volt has less usage of voltage but it is unlikely. Fortunately, it still passes the recommended requirements for energy efficiency standard.
